The Belgian soprano An De Ridder successfully made her debut as Floria Tosca in September 2023 at Theater Ulm. Other recent roles are 3rd Norn in Götterdämmerung (Wagner) in Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Ortlinde in Die Walküre in De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam and Iseut / Isolde in La Légende de Tristan (Tournemire; 1926), a production that was awarded by Opernwelt as 'Best world première of 2022' and is nominated for the International Opera Awards.
Before developing in the Jugendlich-dramatic Fach she sang, among others, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (Mozart) with Le Concert d’Anvers, Micaela in Carmen (Bizet) with Zomeropera Alden Biesen, Mimì in La Bohème (Puccini) with the young theatermakers BangUp and the title role in the operette Clivia (Dostal) with the Brussels Operette Theater. In 2015 An was the cover for the title role in Daphne (Strauss) at De Munt in Brussels.
Aalto Musiktheater Essen
In 2015 and 2016 An performed a number of roles at the Aalto Musiktheater in Essen: Ortlinde in Die Walküre (Wagner), Musetta in La Bohème (Puccini), Princesse Clarice in L’amour des trois oranges (Prokofiev), priesteress in Aïda (Verdi), Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini) and 4th Magd in Elektra (Strauss). 4th Magd she has also been singing at Theater Basel in 2018.
Opera Vlaanderen
An De Ridder made her debut at Opera Vlaanderen as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart). This production has been travelling to the Concertgebouw Amsterdam where she performed the role again for the Robeco Summerconcerts. After becoming a laureat of Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg in Berlin she got a chance to perform Anna Reich and Sandmann. Among other early opera roles are: Adèle in Die Fledermaus, a role she performed several times at the stage of Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden and Zomeropera Alden Biesen, Nanetta in Falstaff (Verdi) at Opera Zuid and L'enfant in L'enfant et les sortilèges (Ravel) with the European Opera Center.
In 2013 An sang a Flowermaiden in Parsifal at Opera Vlaanderen, a role that she performed again at the same theater in Antwerp during a reprise in 2018.
The Netherlands
In 2019 An made her debut at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam as Ortlinde in Die Walküre (Pierre Audi/Marc Albrecht).
After being a member of Operastudio Nederland she performed several roles at the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam and the Rotterdamse Operadays. Most notable are Janthe in Der Vampyr (Marschner) and Marfa in Skupoy by the Russian composer Pashkevitsh.
She sang Enone in La descente de l'Orphée aux Enfers (Charpentier) in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, as well as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart).
Orchestras and Conductors
An has appeared at the live broadcast in Utrecht of Vrijdag van Vredenburg as Marguérite in Honegger's Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher with the NedPho under the baton of Markus Stenz, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra lead by Marc Albrecht and as the soprano soloist in Borodin's Fürst Igor Suite under the baton of Marin Alsop.
She has been successfully working with the Flemish Radio Orchestra under the baton of Pietro Rizzo, the Brandenburgisches Orchestra lead by Heribert Beissel. She sang several times with the Brabants Orchestra, once with Roberto Benzi and later with Ivan Anguélov.
Recitals
An made her debut in New York in November 2017 by singing a semi-staged recital in The Morgan Library and Museum. She also sang a recital with early 20th century repertoire build up around Elektra (R. Strauss) at Opera Vlaanderen in Antwerp and Ghent. Furthermore she was a guest at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, CC Leuven and Bozar in Brussels.
